Ashwaganda has been used in Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine) for thousands of years. It is native to Africa and South East Asia. Often referred to as “Indian Ginseng” Ashwaganda is believed to have rejuvenating and ergizing qualities. The name Ashwaganda translates to “The smell of a horse” because people say the root smells like horse. It is also said that after taking Ashwaganda one will be invigored with the strength and stamina of a horse.
In modern western society, Ashwaganda has earned a reputation for reliving stress and anxiety, it is also still taken for its apparent energizing qualities.
